How the 1064 nm Nd:YAG Laser Works

The 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser delivers controlled pulses of laser energy into the skin that are selectively absorbed by hemoglobin — the pigment found within blood vessels.

When the light energy is absorbed, it converts to heat within the vessel. This causes the vessel to coagulate and collapse, while the surrounding skin remains largely unaffected.

Over the following days and weeks, the body naturally clears the treated vessel and the appearance of the vascular spot gradually fades. Depending on the concern, the area may temporarily darken, appear more pronounced, or form a small crust before it clears.

Common Vascular Concerns We Treat

  • Cherry angiomas – small bright red vascular spots
  • Broken capillaries – visible red vessels often found around the nose and cheeks
  • Facial veins – small superficial red, purple, or blue vessels
  • Rosacea-related vascular redness – persistent redness caused by clusters of visible dilated vessels
  • Periorbital veins – visible veins around the eye area, when appropriate for treatment
  • Leg veins / spider veins – selected superficial vascular lesions on the legs

Why Targeted Vascular Laser Treatment Works

Not every vascular concern requires a full-face treatment. The Nd:YAG laser allows us to precisely target individual vessels or localized vascular spots, making treatment efficient and highly customizable for the specific concern being treated.

After Treatment:

Some concerns respond quickly, while others may require a series of treatments depending on the size, depth, and location of the vessel. Your treatment plan will be customized during your consultation.

Vascular Laser FAQ

The 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser is commonly used to treat visible vascular concerns such as cherry angiomas, broken capillaries, facial veins, rosacea-related vessels, selected periorbital veins, and certain superficial leg veins.
The laser delivers controlled energy that is absorbed by hemoglobin in the blood vessel. This causes the vessel to coagulate and collapse, after which the body gradually reabsorbs it over time.
Treatment is often described as a quick snapping or warming sensation. Comfort varies depending on the area being treated, and settings are adjusted as needed.
Mild redness, warmth, or swelling may occur immediately after treatment. Some lesions, such as cherry angiomas, may temporarily darken or lightly crust before clearing. Vessels fade gradually as the body clears them.
Some isolated vascular lesions may improve quickly, while larger or more persistent vessels may require a series of treatments. The recommended number depends on the type, size, depth, and location of the vessel.
Yes. A consultation is important to determine whether the 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser is the best option for your concern and to build a safe, personalized treatment plan.
